With Full Intent: Israel’s Brutal Attack on the USS Liberty

An event that became one of military history’s gravest ongoing coverups took place on 8 June 1967 — the day that the USS Liberty, a minimally armed, clearly American-flagged technical research vessel, was assaulted by the air and naval forces of Israel in international waters. The deadly bombardment with missiles, napalm and torpedoes in the Eastern Mediterranean during the Six Day War lasted two hours.

To convey the enormity and supreme significance of this unprovoked attack carried out by ‘America’s greatest ally’, UK Column’s US Correspondent Mark Anderson interviewed USS Liberty surviving crew member Phil Tourney, who, at the time of the attack, was a Petty Officer Third Class (E4) Shipfitter. His harrowing account of an attack that killed 34 and injured 174 fellow crew members brings clarity to an event that, although tragic and barbaric, stands as a testimony to supreme human courage and tenacity. As Phil sees it, it brings into focus the merciful hand of God in shaping human affairs so that ultimate truths will emerge. One thing is certain: when enough people finally understand the facts and the importance of this attack, Israel’s seemingly anointed position on the world stage will come crashing down.
