WHO Selects Deutsche Telekom To Create Global Vaccine Passport

After such a devastating pandemic, the World Health Organization wants to ‘facilitate’ its 194 member governments in implementing digital vaccination certificates.

To accomplish so, it’s creating a ‘gateway’ to standardize the distribution of QR codes that grant their owners privileged health status. T-Systems, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom, has been selected as an industry partner to develop vaccination validation services.

“Corona has a grip on the world,” T-Systems CEO Adel Al-Saleh stated. “Digitization keeps the world running. Digital vaccination certificates like the EU’s are key to this. We are pleased to be able to support the WHO in the fight against the pandemic. Health is a strategic growth area for T-Systems. Winning this contract underscores our commitment to the industry.”

Such claims would have been more credible a year ago, but with the UK lifting all Covid-related limitations and many other nations following suit, this increased enthusiasm for vaccines with limited efficacy is perplexing. It’s almost as if institutions like the WHO are hesitant to give up the enormous authority that the pandemic gave them.

“COVID-19 affects everyone,” said Gerrett Mehl, Unit Head of the WHO Department of Digital Health and Innovation.“Countries will therefore only emerge from the pandemic together. Vaccination certificates that are tamper-proof and digitally verifiable build trust.

WHO is therefore supporting member states in building national and regional trust networks and verification technology. The WHO’s gateway service also serves as a bridge between regional systems. It can also be used as part of future vaccination campaigns and home-based records.”

If the WHO has anything to do with it, it will undoubtedly effect everyone. T-Systems is already involved in a similar EU project, which is likely why it was chosen for this job. The WHO wants for this system to be applied to other vaccinations as well, so the planned mission creep is not hidden.

A system like this could simply be modified to attach various criteria to international travel, allowing for a worldwide social credit system to be implemented. Looks like good times are ahead.
