“The Left Must Retreat to Zero” | Slavoj Žižek on Israel, Trump & the Left

“Even Hypocrisy Is Dead Now”—Žižek On Palestine

In this explosive conversation with Owen Jones, legendary philosopher Slovoj Žižek reacts to “18 months of a live-streamed genocide” and asks: why does the West remain “shocked, but not surprised”—and why do we keep ignoring what everyone already knows? Along the way, he’ll explore the nightmares of neoliberalism, the future of Trump, and how the Left can respond…

Slavoj Žižek is a Hegelian philosopher, Lacanian psychoanalyst and political activist. He is International Director of the Birkbeck Institute for the Humanities and Eminent Scholar at Kyung-Hee University, Seoul. His previous books include Living in the End Times, First as Tragedy, Then as Farce, Trouble in Paradise and Like a Thief in Broad Daylight.

Owen Jones was born in Sheffield, grew up in Stockport and studied history at Oxford. His first book, the international bestseller Chavs, was long-listed for the Guardian First Book Award and chosen as one of The New York Times top 10 non-fiction books of 2011. In 2013 he won Young Writer of the Year at the Political Book Awards. His second book was the bestselling The Establishment: and How They Get Away With It, an exposé of Britain’s powerful elites. He is a columnist for the Guardian and a frequent broadcaster.
