Materialism is the theory that only the physical is real, such that consciousness must be entirely a product of the brain. Materialism is counting on neuroscience to explain consciousness eventually, though this expectation is challenged because mental states seem so radically distinct from brain states. What are the arguments for and against Materialism (like the ‘hard problem’?).

Prof. Liad Mudrik received two PhD degrees in cognitive neuroscience (TAU & HUJI) and in philosophy (TAU); the latter was awarded with the Robert J. Glushko prize for outstanding dissertations in cognitive science. She is a researcher at the school of psychological sciences and Sagol school of neuroscience at Tel Aviv University. Her research focuses on conscious experience, its neural mechanisms and functions.
