Agreeing to a Real ID might seem harmless, even convenient, but it’s a step toward something much bigger: the normalization of surveillance and the slow rollout of 15 minute cities.
This isn’t just an upgraded ID card. It’s part of a larger infrastructure that could be used to monitor, limit, and control movement under the guise of safety and convenience.
I get it. Streamlining your life is tempting. But this is a short-term ease with long-term consequences. What feels helpful now could contribute to a system that restricts personal freedom later.
If you want to opt out, you still can. Visit your DMV and request a standard license instead of a Real ID. Just make sure you have alternative documents for travel and stay updated on future rollouts that aim to expand citizen tracking.
