‘Gary Stevenson’s wealth tax is good – but doesn’t go far enough’



We have seen Brian Eno and friends call for a wealth tax on the super rich – and trader-turned-YouTuber Gary Stevenson earned himself a seat on the Question Time panel with his calls for one. Every time we post on the subject, somebody in comments says: I love Gary Stevenson.

Good idea, says the socialist economist Yanis Varoufakis, but it’s not enough for him.

He said more concentration is needed on how the wealth is accumulated in the first place and what the AI revolution in the labour market should mean.

We spoke to him at an event at the Foreign Press Association in London where he was discussing how people’s right to protest was being curbed.
This right, he said, could not be a gift from Sir Keir Starmer.
