When a person notices an odd rash or experiences a troubling ache, several people turn to Google instead of going to the doctor.
Statistics from Eurostat indicate which nations depend on medical knowledge from the internet the most, as Statista’s Martin Armstrong explains below. In Finland, 8 out of 10 people indicated they used the internet to find health-related information, up 22 percentage points from 2011. Similar levels of dependence on Dr. Google were seen in Denmark (75%) as well.
In 2011, only 38% of adults in Spain said they looked for medical info online, but as statista’s infographic above indicates, that number has risen dramatically, with 69 percent now admitting they use Google and other search engines for health advice. In Ireland, there was a comparable significant increase.
Conversely, between 2011 and 2021, Germany’s dependence on the internet for these matters fell from 54 percent to 45 percent.
