Is surveillance actually making us safer?
A lot of people feel uneasy these days, so they turn to home security cameras, thinking they’re protecting themselves, but here’s what most don’t realize.
Every bit of footage those cameras record gets stored on a remote server that you don’t control. That data can be accessed without a warrant, and with the government’s growing push for “crime prediction” technology, your footage could one day be used against you — even for something you didn’t do.
When your cameras link up with your neighbors’ cameras, it doesn’t just protect your street; it creates a web of mass surveillance. So we have to ask: are we really making our communities safer, or are we building our own digital prison?
If you still feel the need for cameras, there is a better option and that is to store your data locally instead of the cloud. That way, you keep control of your own information.
I’ll be diving deep into this and more during my upcoming live masterclass on the Surveillance State.
