An Alternative to the Real ID

HERE’S ONE KEY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REAL ID AND PASSPORTS
REAL ID is a domestic surveillance tool.

While it looks like just another driver’s license, it’s part of a federal initiative requiring enhanced data collection including facial recognition and other biometrics.

REAL IDs are issued with the help of IDEMIA, a French multinational company that specializes in digital identity and biometric tech. This means your data isn’t just stored in state systems—it’s processed and possibly shared through global tech infrastructure.

Passports, by contrast, are designed for international travel.

They’re federally issued and verify citizenship for travel, but they aren’t currently tied into the same kind of centralized biometric databases that REAL IDs feed.

So what’s the real difference?

The tech behind it matters—and so does your informed consent.
