In South Africa, Nelson Mandela and Desmond Tutu reminded the world that ending apartheid anywhere means fighting it everywhere, including in Palestine.
Today, as we speak out against genocide, we’re told the comparison “doesn’t hold.” But it was Mandela himself who made it. And when critics say, “There is no Mandela of Palestine,” they ignore the truth: There is. His name is Marwan Barghouti.
Like Mandela, Barghouti has spent decades in prison. Like Mandela, he symbolises a future of freedom. And like Mandela, he is being kept behind bars precisely because his release could unite his people and open the path to a real Palestinian state.
Marwan Barghouti is the Nelson Mandela of Palestine, and that’s why Israel will not free him unless the world demands it.
Not just him, but the thousands of political prisoners held illegally, including children and detainees whose names we may never know.
The campaign to free Marwan is a campaign for justice, dignity, and liberation for all Palestinians.
Free Marwan. Free all political prisoners.
