Revitalizing India’s Rivers | Sadhguru

In 2017, Sadhguru launched the nationwide “Rally for Rivers” campaign in India, a major policy advocacy initiative, where he traveled across 16 Indian states, rallying 162 million people in support of river revitalization. This effort culminated in a comprehensive policy recommendation submitted to the Indian Government, which has since inspired large-scale government-backed river rejuvenation projects across 13 major rivers in India.

By 2019, Cauvery Calling initiative was launched based on Rally for Rivers policy recommendations, aiming to help 5.2 million farmers plant 2.42 billion trees in the Cauvery basin, acting as a scalable model to address tropical river revitalization and economic challenges facing farmers.

Cauvery Calling – the world’s largest farmer-driven ecological movement – enables farmers to transition to tree-based agriculture. This improves soil fertility, increases water retention, and boosts their income by 300-800%. Till date, Cauvery Calling has supported 248,337 farmers and enabled plantation of 128 million living trees. It also provides end-to-end support to make the tree-based agriculture self-sustaining by educating farmers, ensuring quality subsidized saplings, technical assistance, and market linkages.
