Scientists have discovered that a “weak spot” in Earth’s magnetic field is growing at an alarming rate.
According to a study published earlier this week, an area “almost twice the size of Texas” has been added to the region known as the South Atlantic Anomaly (GAA) since 2014. The study also noted that the GAA is gradually shifting westward toward Africa.
In short, the GAA is expected to grow by up to 25 percent between 2014 and 2025, shifting westward at a rate of 22.5 kilometers per year.
