Nigel Farage has said the Iranian people “deserve better than the current brutal regime” and backed Israel’s strikes against the country.

The Reform leader said Tel Aviv had been forced to act because the UK, US and EU had been “naive” over Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.

His statement came after Israel launched a series of air strikes against nuclear and military sites in Iran on Thursday night.

Tehran then struck back on Friday with missile attacks on Tel Aviv.

Mr Farage has opened up a clear dividing line with Labour, which has become increasingly strident in its criticism of Israel in recent weeks.

Sir Keir Starmer’s initial response to the strikes did not mention Israel’s right to defend itself, though Downing Street did so in a later statement.
