6 Years of Cauvery Calling Journey #throwback | Sadhguru

The world’s largest farmer-driven ecological movement – Cauvery Calling – is aimed at revitalizing Cauvery River in southern India and transforming the lives of 84 million people.

Envisioned by Sadhguru nearly three decades ago, the movement seeks to simultaneously solve the three critical problems of the tropical world – depleting water, dwindling soil fertility, and the impoverished state of farmers.

The movement enables farmers to transition to tree-based agriculture. This improves soil fertility, increases water retention, and boosts their income by 300-800%.

Till date, Cauvery Calling has supported over 239,838 farmers and enabled plantation of 124 million living trees and these trees can sequester up to 71 million tons of CO2 from the atmosphere. It also provides end-to-end support to make the tree-based agriculture self-sustaining by educating farmers, ensuring quality saplings, technical assistance, and market linkages.

In 2022, the Government of India announced a project to revitalize 13 major Indian rivers with a budget of 2.5 billion US dollars based on Cauvery Calling’s recommendations.

Cauvery Calling’s vision is to support 5.2 million farmers to plant 2.42 billion trees. This will lead to a 12 trillion liters increase in water holding capacity in Cauvery basin, increase water flow in Cauvery by 40%, infuse over 322 billion USD in the rural economy.

Several United Nations and international bodies such as UN Environment, UNCCD, and IUCN have recognized Cauvery Calling’s impact and its potential to be replicated across the tropical world, and have inducted Cauvery Calling in various global forums.
